About the artist
I started pursuing art professionally a few years ago, but I honestly can’t remember a time I wasn’t making art. I’ve felt compelled to create for what feels like my whole life, drawing and painting all through my youth. Growing up in Victoria, Australia, provides a beautiful backdrop to do so.
After being mostly self-taught and taking a year course in art out of school, I still feel like I’m learning all the time. For a time I explored mixed media, But I’ve fallen in love with oils and I now find myself turning to old masters such as J.S Sargent, Monet and the impressionists, and Romantic era painters. I’m interested in coupling their traditional techniques and processes with more contemporary approaches to subject, colour and themes.
I am ever inspired by nature, light, fairytales, music, and other forms of art, such as sculpture, architecture, film and literature. My process aims to meld an impressionist approach with realistic elements and cast a dreamier, near surreal light on the subjects. Making art feels like half presence, half absence, and I can only really describe it after the fact. Each time I paint, existing in a space of complete immersion, the quiet thrill of not knowing what it may become inspires me to find out, and I would love for that sense of hopefulness to infuse the piece even once it’s complete.
Art, to me, is like peoples hearts conversing. So I suppose with these paintings, my heart says hello. Thank you for being here.
